Paranormal Investigations
Investigation Timeline of April
19, 2008 (
Special Thanks to Tanya Rosenthal for her documentation ) Team Members Present: John - Donna - Ann - Keith Tanya -
Dawn - Jeff On
Saturday, April 19, 2008, Appleton Paranormal Investigations was
invited to investigate Elsing’s Second Hand Shop in Stoughton,
Wisconsin. What follows is the final report of our
investigation and any evidentiary findings from that evening. Prior
to beginning our investigation, the team set up stationary video
cameras in both the Furniture Room & the Holiday Room. Also, a
motion detector was positioned in what is referred to as the
“Pizza Room” in the far back area of the lower level. API
broke into two teams of 4 investigators. Team A consisted of
John, Donna, Keith and Tanya. Team B consisted of Ann, Dawn &
Jeff, and was accompanied by store owner Vicky Elsing. At 8:36 pm, the investigation began. Team A went upstairs to the attic. Team B went downstairs to the lower level. Both teams investigated for approximately 40 minutes before regrouping on the main level. During
this time, Team A experienced a cold spot and varied EMF
readings in the upstairs area. Team B experienced a slight
feeling of dizziness by a couple of their members in the
Furniture Room. No evidence gathered during this time revealed
anything anomalous. At 9:34 pm, both teams began stage 2 of their investigations. Team A proceeded downstairs, while Team B moved upstairs. During this time, Team A encountered strange EMF readings in the Holiday Room. At a location approximately 3 feet directly inside the doorway and straight ahead. The reading, oddly, moved from the room average of approximately 1.0, all the way up to 2.6 about 10 inches off the ground. Moving the EMF detector up or down from that point would cause the reading to lower. This is strange, as any under-floor electrical conduits would most likely cause the spike to continue all the way to floor level. Also – moving the detector off the axis aligned with the doorway, would also cause a loss in EMF reading numbers. At
9:45 pm, Team A, working with the EMF detector, asked for any
spirits present to manipulate the EMF numbers. The EMF detector
was kept still for this portion, either in hand or on the
floor. This is the result: EMF #’s climbing
.9, 1.0, 1.1 John asks spirit:
“Can you make it a 10?” (aka: 1.0) “How high can you make
it?” EMF detector goes
from: 1.6…. 1.8… 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 (aka: 23) Keith asks: “Can
you make it go back down?” EMF detector goes
from 1.7 (17), 1.5 (15), 1.6 (16). John asks: “Can you make it go over 20 (2.0) or back down to zero? If
you can do this, Donna will read a book to you”.
EMF
detector goes to 1.0. John
asks: “Can you make it go lower?” EMF
detector goes to .7. John asks: “Lower yet? Can you make a noise?” (no response on EVP), “Can you move
something?” (no response) “Do you want to go in the other
room and read a book?” (no response) During this possible
‘communication’ using the EMF Detector, the detector was not
manipulated in any way. The numbers appeared to move as
requested but no fluctuating source of electricity was known to
be in the area to manipulate the readings in any way. Afterwards,
Team A moved into the Furniture Room and conducted an EVP
session, then investigated the rest of the basement area. At
10:01pm, Team B entered the main floor from the attic. During
this time, a Team A member felt a cold feeling during the EVP
session in the furniture room. Also, while investigating the
area of the door to the furnace room, unexplained EMF readings
were detected outside the doorway, near and about 8-10 inches
away from the hinges of the door. The reading moved from an
ambient area reading of .6 – 1.0 all the way up into the 2.5 –
3.0 range in one particular area. However, readings taken by
the furnace did not match those outside the door. A conduit on
the ceiling did cause a spike in the readings, but the area in
question was 3-4 feet from that source and fluctuated. This is
unexplained. Prior to the next round
of investigation, the stationary video camera in the furniture
room was moved to the Attic. Team A was going to leave this
camera in the attic to record any incidents in that area – as no
team members were going to be investigating in the area. When
the camera recording began, the camera battery was fully charged
and showed 119 minutes of battery time. At
11:42pm, Team A began its investigation on the 1st
floor. Team B heading to basement. During this investigation
period, at 12:01 am in the toy room during an EVP & dousing rod
session, team A member Keith’s camera shut off without
explanation. Besides a couple of unexplained noises such as a
‘pop’ or creak were heard, but overall, no other incidents
occurred during Team A’s 1st floor investigation.
John & Keith also performed an EVP session in the far back
storage area of the 1st floor, an area that owner
Vicky stated had never been investigated. Review of the
recording afterwards showed no responses detected. During this time, Team B was investigating the basement. At one point, while they were in the back room behind the furnace area, Vicky asked the question, “Do you like it when I have the investigators come in and try to talk to you?" Investigator
Dawn heard a clear and distinct whispered “No” from her right
side. No other team members heard it, and it was not caught on
audio tape, therefore it can not be verified and is classified
as a ‘personal experience’. At approximately 12:25, Team A moved to the Attic area to investigate while Team B continued working in the basement. Upon arriving in the attic, John noticed that the video camera that had been set up was not on. When the camera was checked, the battery had been drained. The time on the tape showed that the camera, which had showed a battery life of 119 minutes at the onset, had only lasted approximately 24 minutes. A review of the video tape showed no visual anomalies, however there were several unexplained noises caught on the video tape, including one very clear single ‘knock’ which sounded as if it came from the immediate area of the camera. There were no investigators in the attic at the time, and there is no known cause for that sound to occur. Various road noises and
other sounds which sounded like voices were detected as well
during this recording, but were dismissed as possible voices
from outside the building. Team
A conducted a mini EVP session while upstairs, and during part
of that session, John asked about the story of the Chief of
Police falling out of the back window of the building. When
John asked, “Is this true?”, a faint response was later heard on
the recording, possibly saying “No”. This was the only EVP
responses heard during this session. At 1:18 am, both groups teamed up to perform a lantern-lit EVP / Dousing Rod session in the Furniture Room. Present were: Vicki,
Ann, Tanya, Keith, Dawn, Jeff, Donna, John. ( Keith had left
for the evening to return home ). 1:19
am- Vicki heard a childs voice, Dawn heard a whisper. No one
else heard anything. The following portion of this report
contains the details of this session: 1: 20am- John EVP: “Is there anyone here with us?” (no response), “would anyone like to speak with us?” (no response), “Move something?” (no response), “Show us you are here?” (no response), “Knock?” (no response), “Tired of having us here?” (no response), “Would you like us to leave?” (no response). Vicki asks John: “How
do you know if they want you to leave?” John responds: “They
could knock 2 x’s, or move the ball”. 1:27am
Dousing rod session begins. (Ann is holding the rods, John asks
the questions) John says: “Can you
uncross the rods to show us that you are here?” “Make the rods
come straight out”. (Rods go straight) “To confirm, can you
cross the rods so we know it is you?” (rods crossed) “Are you a man?” “If
so, uncross the rods” (no response) “Girl / Female?”
“uncross the rods” (rods uncrossed) “Thank You!” “Do you
live here?” “cross the rods” (Rods crossed) “Are you an adult?”
“Uncross the rods” (no response) “Are you a young girl,
or a child?” “Uncross the rods” (rods uncrossed) “Can you straighten the
rods please?” ( rods straighten ) “Perfect! Thank You!” John
asks the investigation team if everyone can see this. Everyone
is watching intently. “Do you like having us
here?” “cross the rods” (no movement) “Does it bother you
that we are here?” “cross the rods” (rods crossed) (Vicki asks John: “Does
that make you feel bad?” John replies: “I don’t know yet”.) “Does it bother you
because so many groups have come through here?” “Uncross the
rods” (rods uncrossed) “Do you get bored w/
the same questions all the time?” “Cross rods” (rods crossed) “Does it make you
tired?” “uncross the rods” (rods uncrossed) “Are you here by
yourself?” “uncross the rods” (no response) “Are there others
(spirits)?” “Uncross the rods” (rods uncrossed) “I am going to count
with numbers, when I get to the number of spirits, cross the
rods?” “one,… two…
three…four…” (rods crossed) “There are four others
plus yourself making 5 total, if that is correct uncross the
rods” (rods uncrossed) “Keep rods straight
please, Thank You!” “Are there other girls
with you?” “cross the rods” (rods crossed) “Boys / Men?” “uncross
the rods” (rods uncrossed) “Is there a man named Carl?” “cross the rods” (Rods started to cross, but didn’t finish) ( This is in reference
to former owner Carl Bratvold, who according to newspaper
reports apparently passed away in the building ) “Are you older than 5
years old?” “cross the rods” (rods crossed) “Younger than 10 years
old?” “uncross the rods” (rods uncrossed) “I’m going to count
again, when I get to your age… cross the rods” “6… 7… 8… 9…(rods
crossed) “you are pretty smart
for a nine year old!” “Why are you here?”
“Did you have an accident while you were here?” “uncross rods”
(no response) “Were you sick?”
“uncross the rods” (no response) “Did your mom / dad
live here w/ you?” “uncross the rods” ( rods uncrossed) John to Vicki: “Vicki,
did you have a name for this young spirit?” Vicki said: “I used
to call her Emily,… I wanted to call her Emma,… I have stopped
calling her a name”. “Can you point the rods
straight out?” ( Ann adjust the rods herself ) “Thank You Ann “
(Giggle) “Is there a name we can
call you?” (no response) “Vicki sometimes calls
you Emily, or Emma- Is either one of them your name?” “If so,
cross the rods” (no response) “Do you have any
brothers / sisters?” “if so, cross the rods” (no response) “Did you go to school
here?” “Cross rods” (rods crossed) John says to the group:
I get the feeling that she doesn’t know that “it” (death)
happened. Vicki responds: You are the second one to say that. John asks if the rods
are straight?? Ann responds: “A couple of times they have
pointed toward Vicki, is because I mentally said to the spirits
show me where you are. The rods went to Vicki, then to Johns
left side. “Are you getting tired
of answering questions?” “cross the rods” (rods crossed before
he had completely finished asking the question!) “I don’t want to upset
you, or tire you out… If it is OK to ask 2 more questions-
uncross the rods” (rods uncrossed) Donna said to the
group: “Maybe she would let us talk to someone else?” “Is there someone else
here that would want to talk?” “Cross the rods” (no response) “Just give me one more
question… I’m drawing a blank…(pause) Any ideas? (said to the
group)? Tanya said to John:
“Ask her if she is dead?” “Last question to
you…Are you Alive? If so, can you cross the rods?” (rods
crossed) “If there is anything
else you want to say… We will leave our machines here for you to
talk into.” |
