Appleton Paranormal Investigations Elsing’s Second Hand Shop – Stoughton, Wisconsin April
19, 2008
Conclusion: VISUAL EVIDENCE: A.P.I.
was unable to gather any visual evidence other than video
recordings of other evidentiary tools in operation such as EMF
detectors fluctuating or dowsing rod movement during
communication sessions. Only a couple of photographs showed
anything, and those were unsubstantiated orb activity which, due
to a lack of other corroborating evidence, could be explained as
dust or moisture in the air. AUDIO EVIDENCE: A.P.I. was able to capture one EVP during one of the upstairs sessions by Team A, as reported above. This was in response to a question regarding the Police Chief incident, and was a fairly ‘vague’ evidence piece with a single-word response: “No”. This was
caught by two separate audio recorders. The other audio effect was picked up on the attic video camera when it was left alone for 24 minutes. A couple of creaks and one distinct ‘knock’ were picked up on the audio portion of the video. There were no investigators in the area, and this is verifiable as the camera was pointed from back-to-front and would have seen any persons coming up the staircase to the attic area during that time. These
audio anomalies are unexplained, but interestingly, shortly
after the sounds were detected, the fully charged battery lost
all power and caused the camera to shut down. TECHNICAL EVIDENCE: Several areas of EMF fluctuations were recorded in the building over the length of the investigation. These areas included an area in front of the furnace room door, and most notably an area 8-10 inches above the floor in the 1st aisle of the Holiday Room. These areas showed the most radical, unexplained fluctuations of the investigation. Also, there was the incident involving the fluctuating EMF readings in response to requests by investigators of Team A in the Holiday Room. These fluctuations on ‘command’ remain unexplainable by any electrical fields known to be in the area. Other
areas during the investigation, such as the attic, aisle room on
the 1st floor and toy room presented various EMF
fluctuations during the evening, but nothing notable.
Temperature readings throughout the evening were relatively
steady. A couple of minor fluctuations were noted such as a
‘cold feeling’ or a small ‘cold spot’, but there was nothing
major to report from this evidence. A.P.I. uses dowsing rods as another tool to help communication. In a couple of instances, responses appeared to be given to direct questioning, as noted in the above transcripted portions of the report.
NOTE: A.P.I. acknowledges that these
‘responses’, while very interesting, do not necessarily
constitute firm evidence of paranormal activity. There was no
corroborating evidence such as EVPs or EMFs detected during
these sessions. Those who review this evidence are asked to
keep this in mind when drawing any distinct conclusions.
PERSONAL EXPERIENCES: Team B
members experienced dizziness in the furniture room. Dawn
heard a whispered “No” in response to a question asked by Vicky
while Team B was in the basement room behind the furnace area.
The question asked was “Do you like it when I have the
investigators come in and try to talk to you?" - This was not
caught on any audio recording devices. Team
members, when asked, agreed that there was no overall ‘feeling’
by anyone of any presence during our investigation. Team
members felt comfortable in the building, with the exception of
Team B’s dizziness experience.
ANALYSIS: While
Appleton Paranormal Investigations did not reveal any hard
evidence of paranormal activity, a few experiences did raise the
question of it. Strange
EMF readings, unexplained draining batteries, unexplained
noises, and the responses given during the dowsing rod and EMF
sessions are only pieces which one can try to place together to
form an opinion. The
location of Elsing’s Second Hand Shop has been well investigated
by other groups prior to A.P.I.’s arrival, and various
experiences have been had by them. Most report EMF fluctuations
and audio anomalies such as EVPs and noises. Add to this, other
personal experiences reported by the owners, their patrons and
friends, and it paints a picture of a location that seems to
indicate paranormal activities on various levels. These
activities are fluctuating, and it is difficult to state with
any certainty, given our own personal investigative experiences
and evidence, that it is indeed ‘haunted’. However,
the history of the building and the area is rich, and there have
been enough reports and documentation of evidence to warrant the
statement from A.P.I. that there is paranormal activity in this
location.
A SPECIAL THANKS Appleton Paranormal Investigations would like to thank Phil & Vicky Elsing, owners of Elsing’s Second Hand Shop, for their incredibly gracious reception and enthusiasm. Being a newly formed investigation team, Vicky had to have faith in us. Our experience with them has been memorable and enjoyable, and we look forward |
