On Sunday, November 9, 2008, Appleton Paranormal Investigations was invited to investigate the Brumder Mansion Bed & Breakfast in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  What follows is the final report of our investigation and any evidentiary findings from that evening.

The team arrived at the Brumder at 6:45 pm.  We were greeted by owners Julie & Tom Carr and welcomed.  At 7:05 pm we were given a tour of the building during which owner Tom Carr described the various areas of the facility along with any previous experiences reported by guests and employees that he was aware of.

At 8:00 pm, one static camera was set up and recording began in the Gold Room.  Between 8 pm and 9 pm the team discussed strategy and ate dinner.  At 9:00 pm, the team began their investigations.  We divided into two teams of 3 investigators – Team A, consisting of John, Donna & Nick, and Team B, consisting of Ann, Tanya & Jen.

We investigated for 1 hour with Team A in the basement / theater area and Team B in the 2nd / 3rd floor areas.  During this time, Team A conducted video and audio operations as well as conducting an EVP session.  One fact uncovered during this part of the investigation was that there was an area of very high-level EMF readings emanating from the dehumidifier unit in the laundry room.  The readings we found were literally off the charts and buried our needles on our equipment.  If anyone working in that area is sensitive to EMFs they could easily experience the negative effects of such exposure such as feelings of paranoia, being watched, nausea, audio & visual anomalies, etc..

Team B, meanwhile, investigated some of the areas on the 2nd & 3rd levels, but only felt a ‘heavy’ feeling in George’s suite, but no evidence was collected.

The next phase of the investigation was from 10:30 pm to 11:15 pm, with the teams switching areas – Team A moving to the 2nd floor & Team B investigating the basement / theater area.  Neither team reported any experiences during this time nor was any positive evidence collected.  One noteworthy piece of explanatory evidence, however, was found in the Gold Room.  The clock radio located next to the bed does exude a higher than normal level of EMF.  There have been reports of experiences in the past coming from persons staying in or working in the Gold Room.  One explanation may be that due to the higher than normal level of EMFs coming from an area so close to the bed – where someone may be laying – someone sensitive to EMFs could, as in the basement, experience some negative effects.

The third phase of the investigation saw a change in team configuration.  Team A now was made up by Donna, Tanya & Nick.  Team B consisted of Ann & Jen.  John did not participate in this phase of the investigation, instead reviewing audio evidence captured during phases one and two in hopes of discovering any positive readings that my direct us to a more focused area of investigation as the night moved on.  No such evidence was discovered.

During this phase, neither team reported any significant occurrences, although Team B did believe that they heard a door rattling in the area of George’s Room at approximately 12:05 am.

The fourth phase of the investigation took place from 12:40 am to 1:30 am.  This time, Team A consisted of John, Donna & Tanya, while Team B consisted of Ann, Jen & Nick.  Team A investigated the basement / theater area while Team B investigated the Gold Room.

Team B performed a dowsing rod session, and did receive some ‘answers’, with the rods moving in accordance to questions asked.  However, the rods moved very slowly and there was no corroborating evidence such as EVPs, EMFs or significant temperature changes to accompany the movements of the dowsing rods.  ( This was also the case in other parts of the investigation where dowsing rods were used by either team.  Team members would, on occasion, receive answers to questions posed by having the rods move, but the rods moved extremely slowly and no other evidence was available corroborate and indicate paranormal activity.

The final part of the investigation took place from 2:00 am to 2:25 am on the main floor in the sitting room area in the front of the house.  All team members were present while we performed both an EVP and a dowsing rod session.  As in previous instances, the team received some movement of the dowsing rods in response to questions, but the movements were very labored and not corroborated by any other evidence.

At 2:30 am, all team members retired to their respective rooms.  Some recording devices were left on after that time in our rooms, but other than some errant noises such as knocks or creaks which could not be explained but could also be normal to such an aged building, no significant evidence was collected.

The team rose and met on the first floor at approximately 8:30 am on Monday, November 10, 2008.  We gathered for breakfast and discussed the evening’s investigation.  We also toured the neighboring building, led by owner Tom Carr.  The team finally left the location at approximately 10:00 am.
